Dwight's Vision for a Responsible OPALCO
After more than 40 years as a member/Owner of the OPALCO cooperative I have concluded that our cooperative is in serious financial trouble. By that, I mean "DEBT". I have, as have others, spoken out about this growing problem to no avail. The most glaring example is the Board's recent adoption of the 2016 budget. Therefore, I have filed for the Board of Director's District #3 position representing Lopez Island, Decatur Island, Charles Island and all those that believe OPALCO POWER needs to be affordable.
With your support and my election I will commit to the electorate that I will devote my efforts to fulfill the following VISION FOR A RESPONSIBLE OPALCO;
Return the focus of our cooperative's original and primary purpose of providing the most efficient service at the most competitive cost through sound business principles and conservative management practices.
Encourge the Board to engage a forensic auditing firm to analyze and report their findings regarding the financial transactions for the last three years, the "summary" of said reports to be mailed to all member owners of the cooperative.
Promote an attitiude of trust and transparency by the Board towards the Member/owners of the cooperative by rescinding the requirements for a "Confidentiallity Agreement" from and board member or the management staff.
Amend the current cooperative mission statement which is:
By adding the following;
"Orcas Power & Light Cooperative (OPALCO) serves our members with safe, reliable, cost effective and Environmentally sensitive utility services",
maintaining clear, honest and dignified communications with the member/owners.
